Smart Bags first podium for Moto Rapido using Ohlins by FTR Suspension !

Moto Rapido Ducati’s Scott Smart took his first podium of 2010 in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 class at Cadwell Park on Sunday, finishing third behind two very fast BMW S1000RRs in the hands of Jon Kirkham and Tristan Palmer.
Smart started from the front row and managed to get ahead of the field going into Coppice on the first lap. He held off Kirkham’s super-fast bike for a few laps but the horsepower advantage showed along the start/finish straight and it was the same situation when Palmer also used his grunt advantage to get past.

The team’s second rider, Leon Hunt, also scored his best finish of the season so far, ending the day in 12th place and setting a personal best lap of the Lincolnshire track. He had some big names behind him and was pleased with his performance in what is only his fourth race on the 1198S.

“It feels good to finally get on the podium this year. The bike felt good all weekend and the new fork internals really helped. I like Cadwell and have always been quite quick around there but there was just a little too much of a power difference between us and the BMWs,” said Smart.

“When the safety car was out, my rear tyre cooled off quite a lot and I was a bit sideways for a couple of corners but all in all, I am really happy to be back pushing at the front and I want it to continue when we go to Silverstone MotoGP as a support class there.”

Hunt added: “What a mega weekend that was. It is my best-ever lap around Cadwell, I managed to get my best result so far this year and there were a couple of big names behind me or didn’t finish.

“Thanks to Wilf and all the guys at Moto Rapido Ducati, let’s see if we can go a few better at Silverstone. I am really excited about racing on the world stage and sharing a paddock with the likes of Rossi.”

Team manager Steve Moore summed up: “I’m very happy with both Scott’s podium and he is now sixth in the championship. Leon is riding at his best yet, finishing 12th and getting his name on the leaderboard, if we could use the 1198R instead of the S model we would have the power and a slipper clutch to beat the BMW down the straights as well as through the corners.

“Big thanks must go to our new suspension guys FTR and to Ohlins who gave us some new internals to try. I would also like to thank Solent Scientific for their increased support and to Cargo Call and Wickshire Engineering.”
